Half Handed Cloud

With a name loosely taken from an occurrence in the Old Testament, Half-handed Cloud is an interesting phenomenon. John Ringhofer, the man behind the namesake, is a joyful and frugal musician from Berkeley California who when not on tour as a solo artist, can be found as the trombonist for Sufjan Stevens' Illinoisemakers, or as occasional bass player for Danielson.

His complex and artistic music encapsulates his struggle to make sense of his life. In Half-handed Cloud this is expressed as an all-consuming search for God. Half-handed Cloud is able to ensconce complicated theological concepts into playful avant-pop songs without condescending to his subject or to his listener.

Marking his first release since the 'Winding Currents on a Spool EP' in 2007, 'When Overwhelmed With Dread' is Half-handed Cloud at his absolute finest. Continuing his religious exploration through pop-music, John Ringhofer aka Half-handed Cloud offers up a musically complex and joyful avant-pop track that's as thought-provoking as it is exciting. When not on tour as a solo artist, John can also be found as the trombonist for Sufjan Stevens' Illinoisemakers, or as occasional bass player for Danielson.

The second volume in our limited split 7" series. A limited edition 7” bringing together four of the most exciting and experimental folktronica bands of the moment. Limited to just 450 copies worldwide with reversible gatefold sleeves, inserts, and one-inch badges designed by the bands involved.

**OIB Records webstore exclusive: The first 50 copies come with an exclusive set of all four one-inch badge designs as opposed to the single one with the retail copies.

"Delicate vocals and infectious melodies, this may be the perfect four-track EP for those with a sweet tooth. The excellently mixed track listing means that the twee balance is just right, a necessity as we all know what happens when you intake too much sugar. You get the jitters." – The Line of Best Fit
