Sons of Noel & Adrian

Sons Of Noel & Adrian was formed in 2007 by best friends , Jacob Richardson and Tom Cowan. After years of writing and performing together in the drunken brewery town of Burton-Upon-Trent these two troubadour guitar players parted ways for art school and European travel adventures, only to be reunited years later on the south-eastern shores of Brighton.

Having long shared a passion for rich, layered, and intricate guitar music, the 'Sons...' deep musical exploration quickly developed into a unique and mesmerizing style, brooding on the dark fringes of folk, crossing genres and quickly setting them apart from their contemporaries.

Bringing along violinist Mike Siddell (Hope Of The States / Lightspeed Champion) and William Calderbank (The Miserable Rich) for the wild ride, the newly formed four-piece quickly retreated to a converted chicken shed in the Quantock Hills of Devon and set about creating their debut album 'Sons of Noel and Adrian' (Shelsmusic) which was released in 2008 to mass critical acclaim.

Following this debut and the OIB Records released ‘Rivers EP’ (7” vinyl only – SOLD OUT) comes their sophomore album release Knots.

The follow-up to their self-titled debut sees Sons of Noel and Adrian breaking far away from their acoustic roots. At times soft and orchestral, at times crass and loud, Knots is always infused with beauty and tenderness: soulful, taunt, honed and with a new found love of pysch-folk kosmiche experimentation.

Rejecting notions of a fixed line-up, Sons of Noel and Adrian is more of a sprawling musical whirlpool centred around a few key members than a traditional band – not unlike Broken Social Scene, with whom two members of Sons toured with last year as their horn section. The 11 band members make up most of the renowned Willkommen Collective that spawned The Leisure Society, and the various members lend their talents freely to everyone from Damo Suzuki to Laura Marling, with one Son, a full time contributor to her band and as many as four playing with her on certain shows including last year's Glastonbury Festival Pyramid Stage performance.

Such selfless creative interdependence is at the heart of the Willkommen Collective and Sons of Noel and Adrian. The results of their musical co-operative have yielded an album that transcends their debut and positions them as a very unique and thrilling proposition indeed: Knots see SONAA charting new, unexplored aural terrain as immersive an experience on stage as it on record.

“They transcend a label. Through an explosion of genres, Sons of Noel and Adrian prevail – controlled, talented and ramshackle...awe-inspiringly beautiful...an intriguing and enchanting listen." - The Line Of Best Fit

“Undeniably powerful...Knots is a meaty, satisfying listen” – BBC Music

“Each inspirational, frequently brooding composition speaks in intricate tongues of simpler times, evocative instrumental breakdowns speaking the words the lips cannot. An intensely vivid journey into a discordantly beautiful world, Sons Of Noel And Adrian have liberated themselves from the constraints of society’s sonic status quo, and in doing so, have created something truly inspirational.” - Drowned in Sound

“’Come Run Fun Stella Baby Mother Of The World’ combines acoustic guitar, soul beats, drone and military drumming in a way that recalls early TV On The Radio...the trumpet heavy stunner ‘Matthew’ brilliantly mixes gentle acoustic with drone, creating storms that build in power" - Uncut
